Basement Laminate Flooring

The basement is one among the useful areas of any home. But still when some people think of basement only cold, gray dungeon runs through their mind. It needn’t to be this way. With a few simple changes you can turn this space from drab to fab. Basement laminate flooring can make a huge difference and help you create a liveable, workable space where you can enjoy yourself. There are so many different ways to use a basement. Some families expand their home and make a living area out of their basement. Others create a playroom or game room. Still others use the basement for practical things like storage or as a laundry area.

Laminate flooring comes in many different styles. You will find laminate that looks like square vinyl tile such as is common in a kitchen or bathroom area. Then you will find laminate that looks exactly like hardwood. The warmth of wood can turn a cold, unfriendly space into a welcoming haven. As a general rule, darker woods are perfect for larger spaces while lighter woods are better for smaller spaces. Because many basements are dark as it is, a light colored laminate floor like beech or bamboo style can really spruce things up.

Most basement floors are concrete. You will need to place a vinyl sheet down first. After that comes the underlayment, which is basically foam padding. For the basement, thicker is better. Thick underlayment will help insulate the floor against cold and noise. It will add more comfort and durability as well. Underlayment should be placed side by side in strips that do not overlap. Seams can be secured with duct tape. Over the underlayment is placed the laminate flooring. Laminate flooring requires no glue or nails because it simply snaps together.

Basement laminate flooring is definitely an improvement over cold concrete. You will find that laminate flooring is easy to take care of and only requires periodic sweeping and mopping. It keeps its gorgeous shine day after day thanks to the space age coatings utilized by today's flooring manufacturers. Unlike hardwood, you will never need to wax your laminate floors. For these reasons and others, laminate flooring is recommended to anyone who wants to make their basement an attractive and useful area of the home.
