DIY Laminate Flooring

The DIY laminate flooring is the very easy as it does not require any home improvement experience. Today’s laminate flooring does not glue which lessens our burden. Nowadays these planks are designed in a way so as to hold together like puzzle pieces. Just like with any other home improvement project, there is some preparation involved and instructions that must be followed. First, remove the moldings, baseboards and doors from the room where the flooring is to be installed. Check the floor for loose nails or screws. Hammer down any loose areas. If you find any crevices or dips in the floor smooth them out with a product called leveling compound. These simple steps will ensure you install your new laminate floor on a smooth foundation. Now it's time to put down the underlay. The rows of underlay should be placed up against each other so no space is between them and secured at the seams with duct tape.

Before you install your new laminate flooring, hold it up against the door jam to make sure it fits. If the flooring is too tall you will need to cut the door jam to accommodate the height. When beginning to install the flooring, make sure you leave a one-fourth inch space between the wall and the floor. This will account for small fluctuations in the flooring that may occur with the change of seasons. Installing the flooring is simple. Work from one side of the room to the other. The pieces should fit together like a jigsaw puzzle. When working around tight areas use a pry bar to help the tongue and groove pieces fit together more securely.

DIY laminate flooring is available from a variety of manufacturers. Companies like Armstrong and Pergo have a wide selection of choices in many different styles and colors. You may like the rich, warm appearance of hardwood. Or, sophisticated marble may be more your style. Some people like an earthy look such as bamboo or cork. No matter what you choose, you are sure to enjoy the convenience that laminate flooring offers. Unlike the real thing, laminate floors don't require a lot of painstaking maintenance. They hold up under traffic and retain their gorgeous shine day after day, year after year!
