Install Glueless Laminate Flooring

If you wish to install laminate flooring sans glue you can very well follow the manufacturer’s instruction. The laminate flooring is so popular for its ease in installation. As the name implies it does not need either glue, screw or nails. The pieces are snapped together using a click and lock system. The flooring uses tongue and groove parts to create a seamless finish. Once your floor is properly installed, it will be difficult to tell it apart from real hardwood.

The first step when installing hardwood floors is to gather all the necessary tools. You will need a pry bar, rubber mallet, tape measure, fine tooth saw, duct tape and foam underlayment. If you are installing the floor over top of concrete, you will also need vinyl sheeting which goes underneath the foam padding. Some laminate floors include the underlayment as part of the flooring. Others do not. Even if you have a brand that includes the underlayment you may want to lay down foam for extra insulation.

Secure the seams of the underlayment with duct tape, and make sure to leave a quarter inch space between the flooring materials and the wall. This area is called the expansion space and is used to provide for any expansion that may occur due to moisture or temperature changes. After the foam padding is securely in place, it's time to install the actual flooring. You may find it necessary to cut the flooring to make it fit properly. This can be done with your fine tooth saw. A power saw will give you a faster, cleaner cut than a hand saw.

Once the flooring is cut properly, the next step in how to install glueless laminate flooring is to start on one side of the room and begin laying the first line of flooring planks or tiles. The tongues of the first row will need to be cut off to provide a smooth surface to be placed up against the wall. Once the first row is installed you are ready to snap in the next batch. This process continues on until each piece of laminate flooring has been installed. After the floor has been put down you may want to finish up with decorative molding. The instructions here are very basic and meant as a brief rundown of a larger process. Make sure to follow the manufacturer instructions when installing a laminate flooring product.
